How Bolivia’s first venture capital investment company used Equidam to bring greater consistency and transparency to its valuation process.
The challenge
Escalatec was launched as an initiative of Fundación Solydes to invest in early-stage technology companies. During its investment phase, the team needed a consistent framework to assess valuations and present them to its Investment Committee with a clear rationale behind the assumptions and results.
This was particularly challenging in a market with limited local benchmarks and comparable transactions. Traditional corporate valuation approaches were not always well suited to startups with short operating histories, while founders’ projections required careful review and scenario analysis.
How Equidam helped
Equidam gave the fund one structured method for every deal: five valuation methods weighted to each company’s stage, with the assumptions on show, and a report the committee could read. The team calibrated it for Bolivia, adjusting the country and market risk parameters, and often ran the founder’s projections alongside its own to see the gap before negotiating. They also found that industry multiples reading around 10x in the US settle far lower in Bolivia.
In their words

“Equidam really saved us time when we were launching our first fund, giving us a structured and reliable way to approach valuations.”
